Holmes is Where the Hearth is

Contractor-turned celebrity has built his success on honesty, integrity and a passion for doing things right.
I personally enjoy watching Mike Holmes - his show is very informative and allows me to see what issues home owners go through.
I've seen my fair share of some crazy renovation jobs and shoddy workmanship. Did you know as a REALTOR we owe skill and care to our customers. If we see something that isn't right - we cannot turn a blind eye to it.
Some CONTRACTORS need to be shut down. I agree - that's why I always ask my clients to get a few quotes, check references. AND YES...please call ME. I can gurantee someone in my NETWORK - from Agents to Their CLIENTS they have some great contractor names. THAT'S what NETWORKING is all about, to me at least.
PLEASE - have a professional, qualified home inspector look at the home you intend to buy. YES - I have run into some LESS THAN qualified HOME Inspectors in my day. (far and few between)
I do agree with MIKE HOLMES, that their has to be some QUALITY control and licensing of HOME INSPECTORS. THEY have to be held accountable - it isn't fair - they are suppose to be the EXPERT.
PROTECT your investment and Doing Things Right -
1. Slow Down - don't rush into a renovations or you'll make bad decisions
2. Educate yourself - learn all you can about the materials and process.
3. Hire the right contracor- Ask for references - go see them. Check for license and insurance
4. Get a Permit - This will make your job safe and legal - it also provides a record for the future sale of your home
5. Stay involved in the project - this is not a time to take a vacation and hope your home will be perfect. You are the BOSS.
